Psalm 73.26 (NIV)
My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
God is not limited by my weaknesses but liberated by them!*
In listing his troubles, the psalmist places failing flesh first, but in reporting the remedy, he starts with the heart. From this, we might deduce that, whatever ails us, God’s cure starts with the heart.* Sin can be the root cause for many a physical ailment.  Stress-related illnesses come to mind readily: high blood pressure, ulcers, eating disorders. Other conditions can be caused by living an ungodly life: alcoholism, drug addiction, sexually transmitted diseases.

When life becomes more than we think we can handle, God is the “strength of our hearts” – the one we rely on. The psalmist says that God is his portion forever – he is willing to forsake his earthly inheritance because God is all he needs. Like him, we can find contentment in the midst of self-denial.
Spiritual needs ultimately outlast and outweigh physical needs; the bread of life is more valuable than perishable bread.*
