We cancelled
our subscription to the newspaper. I don’t watch the news on television. I am
vaguely aware of current world events through the Facebook posts of my friends.
It is not uncommon for me to hear, “Don’t you know? Haven’t you heard?” from
people who are more in-tune with what’s going on in the world. Most of the time
I live by the “ignorance is bliss” philosophy of life. Besides, just because I heard it
or read it somewhere doesn’t make it true. Even if it’s true, the reporting of
it is slanted. And what am I going to do about it anyway?
By isolating
myself from the bad news, I am also missing out on any good news that might filter
in. Isaiah’s report is the kind of information I need to hear on a daily basis.
Remind me, Isaiah, why I have hope in a hopeless world. God is everlasting – he
won’t grow old and die. He is the creator of the universe – if he can create
it, he can control it. He won’t get tired or bored – he is always energetic on
my behalf. And if his understanding is fathomless then surely he can figure me
out!
